. Communication Studies Endows Annette C. Shelby Lectureship.
The UA Board of Trustees has permanently endowed the Annette C. Shelby Endowed Support Fund, which will fund the Annette C. Shelby Lectureship in the Department of Communication Studies. The Annette Shelby Lectureship will be a biannual series that will showcase scholars and professionals in the field of communication studies. The lectureship is named after Annette C. Shelby, a Georgetown University Professor Emerita and wife of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby.
. Hugh Kaul Foundation Lead Gift to Endow Professorship in Foreign Languages and Literatures.
The Hugh Kaul Foundation recently made a generous gift of $100,000 towards the establishment of the Dr. William C. Carter Endowed Professorship in French and Proust Studies. This endowed professorship would be the first in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the first in the School of Arts and Humanities. The Hugh Kaul Foundation is also contributing an additional $200,000 in matching funds towards the total endowment goal of $500,000.
. Scholarships support students in African-American Studies.
Recent generous contributions to the African-American Studies Program will support scholarships to students in the program. These scholarships will allow for both the recruitment of students into the program and the retention of students that are currently majoring in African-American Studies. Birmingham City Councilman Elias Hendricks, Birmingham City Council President Lee Loder, and Mrs. Mary Johnson-Butterworth have made generous gifts to the scholarship fund.
